2009 Women's Basketball Signing Class
|
|
Waterloo, Ill. (Waterloo HS)
Bio: Averaged 21
points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game as a junior at Waterloo High
School. She was a St. Louis Post Dispatch Honorable Mention all-Metro team
selection and is a top-100 prospect in the class 3A/4A division, as selected by
the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. She has already surpassed the 1,000
point mark and 600 rebound mark for her career.
Coach Smith on Jennifer: “Jennifer brings much needed
athleticism to the post, has great hands and will be able to help inside with
Georgia Mueller graduating at the end of this season. She has gotten
double teamed and triple teamed all through high school and has found a way to
get it done.”
Jenny Dorman: 5-foot-7, Guard
Pella, Iowa, (Missouri S&T; Pella HS)
Bio: Played in
all 29 games and averaged nearly 12 minutes and four points per game as a
freshman at Missouri S&T. She led the Lady Miners in three-point percentage
(47.9%) and connected for 23 on the season. Dorman was also only one of six
players on the Mo. S&T roster to play in all 29 games. In high school, Dorman
was a first-team all-state selection her senior year and received both first-
and second-team all-state votes as a junior. She is Pella High School's all-time
leading scorer with 1,406 career points and shot better than 45% from the
three-point line for her career - including an over 50% clip as a senior.
Coach Smith on
Jenny: “Jenny brings many great qualities to our
program. One that stood out the most to me is her durability, having played in
all 29 games this season as a true freshman on a team that won 16 games. She
knows what to expect on a daily basis and brings a true shooter's mentality to
our team.”
Amy Galey:
5-foot-6, Guard
Excelsior Springs, Mo. (Highland CC; Excelsior Springs HS)
Named a preseason NJCAA second-team all-American prior to this season at
Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas. The 5-foot-6 point guard
averaged 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game last season as a
freshman. She was an NJCAA first-team all-region pick after joining the HCC
program following a high school career at Excelsior Springs High School in
Excelsior Springs, Mo., that garnered 16 letters in five different sports. She
recently was named a third-team all-American as a sophomore at Highland CC.
Coach Smith on Amy: “Amy fills a much needed position for us in that she is a
true point guard that looks to get her teammates involved first. She has great
experience and a very solid work ethic that will bring great things to the
Bulldog basketball program.”
Cassie
Hunt: 6-foot-0; Center
Richmond, Mo. (North Central Missouri College; Richmond HS)
Played two seasons at NCMC and averaged nearly 18 points per game and finished
third in the program's history with 1,094 points. A unanimous first-team
all-region player, Hunt was a second-team all-American as a sophomore and became
the first two-time all-American in school history. As a freshman, Hunt was the
NJCAA player of the week once and was a third-team all-American. She ranked in
the nation's top-50 in scoring, field goal percentage and rebounding in her
first season prior to ranking 13th in the nation in scoring as a sophomore.
Coach Smith on Cassie: "With Georgia [Mueller]'s graduation, we needed to
find someone with experience in the low post, and Cassie brings that having been
a two-time all-American. She has great hands and does a great job finishing
around the basket. She is one we needed in many ways, is a great vocal leader
and will be a big contributor to our program."
Becka McHenry: 5-foot-7, Guard
Fraser, Mich. (Fraser HS)
Bio: Averages 16 points per game and shoots 44% from the field at Fraser High
School. She has received first-team all-Metro East, first-team all-county and
first-team all-conference accolades, while also being recognized as a Detroit
Free Press all-state 6th-team and Detroit News all-state Honorable
Mention player.
Coach Smith on Becka: “Becka brings us great all-around perimeter skills, as she
can pass it, shoot it, and dribble it. She sees the floor very well and can play
the 1 or 2 positions for us. She will contribute right away.”
Megan Sharpe: 5-foot-10, Forward
Edwardsville, Ill. (Edwardsville HS)
Bio: An all-state second-team selection at the
3A/4A level as a senior, Sharpe averaged 15 points and more than five rebounds
per game in 2009 while shooting better than 60% from the field. An Illinois
State Scholar in the classroom, Sharpe was picked to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch
all-metro first-team and was the Alton Telegraph's area player of the year this
past season. She will compete in both basketball and volleyball at Truman,
having signed her letter of intent to join the Bulldog volleyball program last
fall.
Coach Smith on
Megan: “Megan brings a level of athleticism we've been lacking, as her quickness
will cause a lot of mismatch problems in the post for our opponents. She
understands the game and has played at a very high level throughout high school
and brings a winning mentality that is hard to teach. She will be an asset for
both the basketball and volleyball programs here at Truman.”
