Feb. 28, 2010 – Four Bulldogs placed at the NCAA Division II Super Regional on Sunday in Warrensburg but in the end, no Truman wrestler will be heading to nationals.  Dean Schultz and Bryan Isbell each placed fifth.

Five of the 10 opening matches for Truman were decided by less than two points with only Colton Schmitz (149) and Loyde Braidlow (285) coming away with victories.

Schmitz won 6-4 in his first match since early January but then was ousted in two straight bouts to see his season come to an end.

Braidlow won via riding time in his first match over #3 seed Lynn Panko (Indianapolis) but then lost to #2 Dustin Finn (Central Oklahoma) by fall late in the third period.

The senior lost his next match 4-2 and was defeated in the fifth place match by fall.

Two veterans of the Bulldog team were in position to make their first nationals.

Bryan Isbell  (165) lost his first match 4-3 to #2 Matthew Gille (Wisconsin-Parkside) but rebounded with a 6-4 win in the wrestlebacks.

He lost in the semifinals by fall, which would later come back to bit him.  After winning the fifth place match 9-3, Isbell’s previous loss to the eventual fourth place finisher prevented a “True Fourth” match.

Dean Schultz (174) won by major decision over #4 Shelby Mappes (Indianapolis) but was defeated by fall to top-seeded Aaron Denson (Nebraska-Omaha) in the semi-finals.

Schultz lost by sudden victory in the wrestleback semis but won the fifth place match my major decision.  His loss to #7 Cody Rowell in the extra time was the difference as Rowell finished fourth and will move on to nationals.

Zach Hayes (197) was still alive for a national berth late in the day but a pin fall loss in the wrestleback semis and a 6-1 defeat in the fifth place match ended his season.
