Feb. 8, 2010 – Senior Loyde Braidlow and sophomore Alex Maus each placed at the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday for the Bulldog Wrestling team. Braidlow finished second while Maus was fourth.
Braidlow was seeded sixth in the 285-pound weight class and picked up a tech fall victory in his first match. He then defeated #3 Cedric Powell (McKendree) by fall early in the second period and #2 Willie Wiggins (Lindenwood) at the 5:20 mark by fall to reach the finals.
In the title bout against #1 Dom Bradley (Missouri), Braidlow lost 1-0.
The senior is on the cusp of breaking into the top 10 all-time in Truman victories. Braidlow has 89 for his career and is four short from tying Kevin Bates, Corey Crandall, Justin Naumovitz and Mike Duffy for 10th.
Maus was unranked in the 141-pound weight class and picked up four pin fall victories en route to the fourth place finish. Maus has 17 of his 29 victories this season coming via fall.
He lost to #8 Nick Hucke (Missouri) 6-3 in the quarterfinals but bounced back with two more fall wins over #3 Miles Bolin (Lindenwood) and #4 Luke Cherep (Missouri). Maus then defeated #2 Eric Graham (Missouri Valley) 6-3 to reach the wrestleback finals but lost to #1 Wilson Metellus (Lindenwood) 6-4.
Chad Kurvoski (184) won his first two matches on the day but dropped his next two by tech fall to finish 2-2 on the day. Andy Bader also posted a 2-2 record after dropping his first match of the day to top-seeded Joe Cornejo (Missouri Valley) by fall.
The Bulldogs will finish up the regular season with four dual matches over the next week. It will get underway on Wednesday as they travel to Lindenwood University (Mo.) for a 7:00 p.m. match and continue on Sunday at the MIAA Duals against Central Missouri, Nebraska-Omaha and host Fort Hays State.
