Feb. 5, 2010 – Zach Hayes scored a major decision victory at 197 pounds to help the Truman Wrestling team to a 23-19 victory over
The Jets won four of the first five contested matches to take a 16-9 lead over the Bulldogs. Kaz Hastimoto (125) got a forfeit win for the Bulldogs and Andy Bader won 3-1 at 157.
Senior Dean Schultz picked up a big major decision victory at 174 by a 14-1 score to pull Truman to within three team points.
Knowing the Bulldogs were getting six points at heavyweight due to a forfeit, Chad Kurvoski kept Newman within striking distance with a late reversal to keep his match a decision victory instead of a major decision.
Kurvoski was down 9-2 plus riding time but was able to reverse Tyler Hasenbank with seconds remaining to drop the match by a 10-4 decision.
With the meet on the line in a winner take all match, Hayes dominated Blake Fulbright for a 13-4 victory in the main event.
That win gave Truman a 23-19 dual victory over the Jets and a 2-0 record in matches in Pershing Arena.
Truman will head to the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday.
