Dec. 6, 2009 – Freshman Colton Schmitz led the Truman Wrestling team with a fourth place showing at the Simpson College Invitational on Saturday. Five Bulldogs placed in the event as Truman will host
Schmitz finished 4-2 on the tournament with his only losses coming against the top-seeded wrestler in the 141-pound bracket by a 7-3 score and dropping the third place match by a narrow 4-2 verdict.
Dean Schultz picked up a sixth place finish after advancing to the semi-finals of the 174-pound bracket. Schultz won his first two bouts before falling 4-2 in the semis and then having to forfeit his final two matches.
Three other Bulldogs, Ryan Banning (133), Chad Kurvoski (184) and Loyde Braidlow (285), finished in seventh place in their respective brackets. Kurvoski picked up a team-best, three pinfall victories during the tournament.
As a team, Truman finished with 58 points and in seventh place out of 13 teams.
The team will host their first of two home dual meets of the season on Thursday night when they entertain Hannibal-LaGrange at 7:00 p.m. in Pershing Arena. Admission is free.
