Oct. 31, 2009 (PITTSBURG, Kan.) – In a battle of top-25 teams, it was No. 24 Pittsburg State that prevailed in three sets on Saturday afternoon against the 18th-ranked Truman volleyball team by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-19.

 

The Bulldogs (22-10, 10-6 MIAA) hit just .105 for the match and committed 22 errors to be saddled with the loss despite recording more digs, aces and blocks than PSU (21-9, 11-5 MIAA). Freshman Megan Sharpe again took top points honors with 12 on nine kills, two block assists, a solo block and an ace while hitting .300. The only other Truman player to hit above .200 was freshman Emily Briseno, who had four kills and hit .333.

 

Truman fell behind early in each of the first two sets, but flipped the cards and led 16-10 in the third frame. However, the Gorillas mounted a 15-3 run to end the set and deal the ’Dogs its tenth loss of the season.

 

Junior Ashley Petak had the team’s only double-double on the day with 17 assists and 13 digs, while sophomore Molly Sinclair posted a team-high 15 digs and was one of two players (senior Lauren Graybeal) to tally seven kills.

 

Pamela Cartagena put down 15 kills without an error to pace PSU and Molly Bergkamp added nine kills and a solo block for 10 points.

 

The Bulldogs have a big week ahead with two more ranked foes on the slate, starting with No. 4 Central Missouri on the road Wednesday night. Match time from Warrensburg is set for 7 pm.
