Oct. 29, 2009 (TOPEKA, KAN.) – Freshman Olivia Hayes scored her 12th goal of the season in the 33rd minute of Thursday night’s match at Washburn University to help the Truman women’s soccer team win its 11th straight match in a 1-0 win against the Lady Blues.
Hayes scored an unassisted goal from inside the box just seven minutes after checking in off the bench. The Bulldogs (13-2-2, 12-1 MIAA) kept pace with Nebraska-Omaha with the win, staying just a point behind the Mavs with an additional game to play.
Sophomore Jayne Grisham was rarely tested, stopping just two WU (8-8-1, 5-7-1 MIAA) shots on goal in picking up her MIAA-leading ninth shutout of the season.
The team shutout was the 10th in the current 11-match winning streak, as Truman has surrendered just one goal in the past 1,015 minutes of action. The lone tally during the stretch was scored by Central Missouri, the Bulldogs’ next opponent on Saturday night at 7:00 pm in Warrensburg. Truman recovered from an early UCM goal to score two of its own in the second half and beat the Jennies, 2-1, in Kirksville on Oct. 12.
