Oct. 23, 2009 (KIRKSVILLE, Mo.) – The 19th-ranked Truman volleyball offense struggled to get on track and hit just .069 in a 3-0 loss to No. 9 Washburn in Pershing Arena on Friday night. Freshman Emily Briseno and senior Lauren Graybeal each had seven kills to pace the Bulldogs offensively.

 

Briseno hit a team-best .600 (7 kills, 1 error on 10 attempts) but was left with little backup, as no other Bulldog hit better than .182 in the match. Briseno and Graybeal each added two block assists for eight total points, while freshman Megan Sharpe recorded five kills and three block assists for 6.5 points.

 

The Bulldogs (19-9, 7-5 MIAA) hit .069, while the visiting Lady Blues (25-3, 9-3 MIAA) hit .226 and were led by Hillary Hughes’ ten kills.

 

Senior Krysta Tholen dished 17 assists, and junior Ashley Petak chipped in ten assists and ten digs for the purple and white’s lone double-double on the evening. Junior libero Casey Bruno notched a team-high 12 digs.

 

Truman will return to action tomorrow (Saturday) evening against Fort Hays State in a 6pm start at Pershing Arena.
