Oct. 18, 2009 – Senior defender Drew Pauk found pay-dirt four minutes into the first overtime, as the 8th-ranked Truman men’s soccer team picked up win No. 10 on the season with a 1-0 win at Upper Iowa University on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (10-2-1) kept pressure on the UIU (5-10-1) end all afternoon by outshooting the Peacocks, 19-5. And despite a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal, it wasn’t until the squad’s 11th corner kick of the day before Pauk was able to convert off a feed from Charlie Backus in the 95th minute.
Jonathan Brown (wearing No. 7 instead of his normal No. 17 for this match) led all Truman players with four total shots and three on net, while both Pauk and fellow senior defender Matt Taylor took two shots between the pipes. Goalkeeper Tyler Knierim recorded his seventh shutout of the season and dropped his goals-against-average to 0.42 after surpassing the 1,000 minute mark on the season.
Two home matches await the ’Dogs this coming week, with regional-foe Texas-Permian Basin traveling to Kirksville on Wednesday afternoon before Principia (Ill.) College faces the Bulldogs on Friday. The Truman/UTPB match on Wednesday will begin at 1 pm.
