Oct. 16, 2009 – Senior Lauren Graybeal provided the offense with a match-high 13 kills, and the No. 20 Truman volleyball defense held Northwest Missouri to a .024 attacking clip en route to a 3-0 (-18, -8,- 18) sweep on Friday night in Kirksville.
Graybeal hit an efficient .522 (13-1-23) on the night for Truman, who moved to 17-8 overall and 5-4 in the MIAA with the win. Three other ’Dogs – sophomore Molly Sinclair, freshman Megan Sharpe and freshman Heather Hargadine – each tacked on six kills of their own to help guide Truman to a .356 offensive output of its own.
Junior setter Ashley Petak dished out 21 assists and was the catalyst behind a 13-0 Bulldog run to close out the second set. Petak’s run of 12 consecutive serves was the longest stretch for the ’Dogs since the 2007 NCAA regional quarterfinals when current squad-member Casey Bruno served 17 straight points.
Bruno led the Bulldogs defensively with 12 digs, and freshman Emily Briseno logged a match-high four blocks.
Truman will wrap up the first half of the MIAA slate on Saturday night when it hosts Missouri Western in a 7 pm start at Pershing Arena.
