Oct. 12, 2009 – Senior midfielder Katie Hinrichs headed in the game-winner with just less than five minutes to play, as the Truman women’s soccer team came from behind to knock off Central Missouri, 2-1, on Monday afternoon in Kirksville. The win marked the eighth straight for the Bulldogs, who maintained a three-point lead in the conference standings.
UCM got off to a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute on a goal by Aaryn Burke. The goal snapped a 685-minute scoreless streak by the Bulldog defense, the longest since a seven-match shutout stretch during the 2003 season.
After the Jennies (6-5-2, 5-3-1 MIAA) carried the lead into the intermission, Truman (10-2-2, 9-1 MIAA) knotted the score right away in the second half when sophomore Megan Buri dribbled down the right side and fed senior Katie Reuck for a header in the 51st minute that hit the back of the net. It was Reuck’s fifth goal of the season and 20th of her career.
Then, in the 86th minute, Buri again played a cross into the box which found an open Hinrichs on the back post to give Truman the lead. Hinrichs notched her first goal of the season before sophomore goalkeeper Jayne Grisham saved three Jennies shots in the final four minutes to preserve the home win for Truman. Grisham made eight saves in helping Truman pick up win No. 10 – marking the 15th consecutive season of double-digit wins for the program.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday afternoon for a 3 pm home match against Northwest Missouri State before wrapping up the home portion of the regular season on Saturday versus Missouri Western at noon.
