Oct. 11, 2009 – The Truman women’s tennis team concluded their fall season by competing at the Hinds-Kellogg Classic at Western Illinois University. 

Amy Ochs, Lauren Higgins and Sarah Schlafly each placed fourth in their respective flight.  Ochs won a tie break set in her opening match in the tournament’s top flight.  She was later defeated in straight sets in the semi-finals and in the third place match.

Higgins took a similar path as she won 6-0,7-5 in her first match before falling 6-2,-6-1 and 6-2, 6-3 in the third place finale.

Schlafly won 6-2, 6-1 in her first match then after winning the first set in the semi-finals 6-3, fell in a tie breaker to Megan Marsot of Quincy.

Dagmar Velez was the consolation winner in her bracket.  Velez lost a tie breaker in her opening match but rebounded to win 6-3, 7-5 and 6-3, 7-6 (5) to claim fifth place.

In doubles action, Ochs and Ellen Russell lost 9-8 (3) in their first match to a pair from the University of North Dakota but came back to take the consolation side of the bracket with two victories.
