Sept. 29, 2009 – The Truman Tennis teams improved to 2-0 in dual matches with a sweep over Westminster College in Fulton on Tuesday. The men won 7-2 while the women won 9-0.
The men battled the defending St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (Division III) champions in a match that could have gone either way. After taking a 2-1 lead following doubles matches, four of the six singles needed a third set to be resolved.
The Bulldogs ended up winning five of six with Steven Hipkiss winning 6-3 5-7, 10-6 at number one and Eric McCollough winning 6-4, 1-6, 11-9 at number three. Mark Sturley held off Justin Arnold in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 at number six singles.
The women cruised to their 9-0 victory as all six singles matches were decided in straight sets.
The Bulldog ladies will face Lincoln University on Thursday in Jefferson City and then both teams will host Maryville University on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
