Sept. 29, 2009 – Women’s soccer goalkeeper Jayne Grisham and women’s cross country runner Dani Dell’Orco were each tabbed MIAA player of the week for their respective sports on Tuesday by the MIAA conference office. Both student-athletes are first-time recipients of the award this season.
Grisham recorded her fourth shutout of the season in a 1-0 shutout of UNO to help Truman move into first place in the MIAA standings. The sophomore from Bridgeton, Mo. (Ursuline Academy), also worked 68 minutes of scoreless action in a 4-0 win against MSSU before being given the rest of the game off. On the season, Grisham has a 0.80 GAA and has been a part of six shutouts (she has shared minutes with backup goalkeeper Allison Taylor in two of those shutouts). Grisham has also been a stalwart in net, as Truman has four straight team shutouts - a mark that the Truman program hasn't achieved since 2007.
Dell'Orco finished in third place at the Brissman-Lundeen Invite with a 6K time of 19:28.4. The sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. (Cor Jesu Academy), also helped lead Truman to its third consecutive cross country team title. Dell'Orco was the second collegiate runner to cross the finish line and was 50 seconds ahead of the fourth-place runner.
The Truman women’s soccer team will be at home on Thursday afternoon against Missouri Western, while the women’s cross country squad will take this weekend off before traveling to the MIAA/GLVC challenge in Rolla, Mo., on Oct. 10.
