Aug. 28, 2009 – The Truman men’s soccer team fell behind 2-0 and could never catch back up on Friday afternoon, as the Drury Panthers held off the Bulldogs in a 4-2 decision at the Truman Soccer Park.
Senior Drew Pauk and junior Craig Beil tallied goals for Truman in a physical match between the two in-state rivals, but both only brought the Bulldogs to within one. After Pauk’s goal cut the Drury lead to 2-1 in the 36th minute, the Panthers retaliated with a goal in the 67th to move back ahead by two.
The ’Dogs continued to pressure, and Beil ignited the home crowd with a header off a Jonathan Brown free-kick in the 75th minute. However, DU recovered quickly, getting a flick from Micah Whorton past the outstretched hands of Truman goalkeeper Kyle Talbot less than a minute later to give DU the two-goal win.
Both teams recorded 15 shots and each keeper made four saves. The Bulldogs ended up on the high side of a 19-12 foul count but picked up just two of ten issued yellow cards on the afternoon.
Truman (0-1) will be back in action at home on Sunday at 5 pm against Missouri-St. Louis.
