July 6, 2009 – Former Truman women’s tennis player Lindsy Blair has been awarded one of 58 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships given to spring-sports participants. Blair, a senior this past season, is the 14th Bulldog student-athlete since 2003 to pick up the prestigious award.
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program awards up to 174 grants annually (87 men, 87 women) regardless of division. The awards of $7,500 apiece are given to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically in their respective sport season. Created in 1964, the program promotes and encourages postgraduate education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA sports.
Blair (Pella, Iowa; Pella HS) compiled more than 100 wins in singles and doubles play as a Bulldog, including a combined 37-19 mark in 2009. She was the MIAA women’s tennis sportsmanship award recipient and garnered honorable mention accolades at No. 1 singles this past season.
For her work in the classroom, Blair is a three-time Academic all-MIAA pick and has been named to the MIAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll and MIAA Presidential Scholar lists twice each. In June, she received third-team honors on the Academic All-America Team, presented by ESPN The Magazine and CoSIDA.
She recently graduated with a degree in Mathematics and is pursuing her Masters in Education.
