June 25, 2009 – Truman junior men’s golfer Chris Kovach made the cut and advanced to the match-play portion of the 2009 Missouri Amateur tournament, being held at the St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri. Kovach shot a second-round 75 to finish the two-round stroke-play portion of the event tied for 23rd place with a +5 (147) score.

 

Kovach (St. Louis, Mo.; Oakville HS) will face Scott Glenn (+6, 148, in stroke play) in the first-round of match-play competition on Thursday, with their twosome teeing off at 1:51 p.m. The top 64 players advanced to the second round, and the tournament will continue through Sunday when the 2009 champion will be crowned after a 36-hole match-play championship.

 

Two other Truman golfers – juniors Andy Herington (Milan, Mo.; Milan HS) and Vincent Kurth (Grain Valley, Mo.; Blue Springs HS) – failed to make the cut after both posted an 81 on day two. Herington finished tied for 73rd at +13 (155), while Kurth closed his two days at +16 (158).
