May 22, 2009 – Katrina Biermann finished up her junior season with a sixth place finish in the pole vault, while Derek Atwood and Alex Van Delft finished 13th and 16th respectively in the shot put at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field championships.

Biermann missed her first attempt on the night but then cleared three straight vaults with the last coming at 12-07.25.  Her final three attempts came at 12-11.00 which would have been a school record.  Katelin Raines of Minnesota State-Mankato won the national championship by clearing 13-07.00.

Atwood and Van Delft both competed in the first flight of the men’s shot put and saved their best throws for last.  However both Bulldog throwers could not get enough distance to score any team points.

Atwood’s mark of 52-02.00 placed him 13th while Van Delft’s put of 50-04.00 was 16th.  It was the first national meet experience for both sophomores.

Saturday’s final day will see the finals of both the 400 meter hurdles and 3000 meter steeplechase in which Shaina Dochterman and Danna Kelly will be competing while Kortney Holeman will in the field for the discus.
