NCAA Outdoor Championship Site
May 12, 2009 – Six Truman Track & Field student-athletes have been selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship meet. The Bulldogs will compete May 21-23 in San Angelo, Texas.
Shaina Dochterman and Kortney Holeman will be making their second outdoor championship appearance while Derek Atwood, Alex Van Delft, Katrina Biermann and Danna Kelly will be competing for the first time at the outdoor meet.
Dochterman (Kahoka, Mo./Clark County) is fifth in the nation in the 400 meter hurdles. She clocked a time of 1:00.56 en route to a second place finish at the conference championship meet on May 3rd. Dochterman did not make the finals last year at the outdoor meet but placed 12th with a time of 1:02.80. She was an All-American in the 400 meter dash during the indoor season with a sixth place finish.
Holeman (Independence, Mo./William Chrisman) is seeded 10th in the discus after her mark of 154-03 last Saturday at the Emporia State Twilight meet. Holeman finished 15th last year at the outdoor championships.
Biermann (Liberty, Mo./Liberty) is the school record holder in the pole vault after clearing 12-08.00 at the conference meet two weeks ago. Biermann broke her own school record five times this season and also holds the indoor pole vault record. She was also an All-American in the indoor meet after placing eighth in the pole with an 11-09.75 vault.
Kelly (Boone, Iowa/Boone) has been breaking school records in the 3000 meter steeplechase all spring season as well. Kelly’s mark is 11th in the nation at 10:49.66 as she shaved over 11 seconds off her record from a year ago. Kelly set her automatic time at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa on April 10th. Kelly was an All-American following the 2008 Cross Country championships.
Two men’s team members will be making their first championship appearance in the same event.
Derek Atwood (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit North) is seeded 10th in the shot put after recording a mark of 54-03.25 at the MIAA Championship meet two weeks ago.
Alex Van Delft (Macon, Mo./Macon) will be seeded 14th in the shot while finishing just behind Atwood at the conference meet. Van Delft’s season best mark was 53-11.75.
