May 10, 2009 – Members of the Bulldog Track & Field team attempted to improve their national marks at the season ending Emporia State Twillight Meet on Saturday.  Shaina Dochterman, Katrina Biermann and Kortney Holeman did just that.

Dochterman, who is already qualifed and has the fifth fastest time in the 400 hurdles, moved to 15th in the 400 meter dash on Saturday.  She took first place in the event with a time of 56.17.

Biermann is now 11th in the nation after jumping 38-11.75 in the triple jump.  The leap was good for first place in the event and could possibly get her into two events at nationals.  Biermann holds the Truman pole vault record and has the 9th best mark in Division II.  She took second on Saturday with a vault of 12-05.50.

Kortney Holeman improved on her discus mark and is now 10th in the nation after a first place showing on Saturday.  Holeman’s mark of 154-03 should be enough to get her into her second outdoor championship meet.

Danna Kelly attempted to also qualify in the 1,500 meter run but came up short.  Kelly placed second in the event with a time of 4:43.70 but did not get a provisional time.  Kelly will enter the national meet in the 3000 meter steeplechase where she is currently 10th in the nation.

On the men’s side, both Coedy Walker and Derek Atwood did not improve on their provisional marks and will wait and see on their national meet status.

Walker jumped 22-01.50 in the long jump but will have to rely on his previous best of 23-08.25 to get into the meet.  He is currently 18th in Division II.

Atwood placed fourth on Saturday with a mark of 53-05.75 in the shot put.  He is 11th in the nation after his 54-03.25 mark set last week at the conference meet.

The Bulldogs will learn their fate later this week from the NCAA.  The Division II Championships will be held May 22-24 in San Angelo, Texas.
