May 7, 2009 – Junior OF Keaton Jones and freshman C/DH Devon Myers were picked to the MIAA’s honorable mention baseball squad, as released Thursday by the conference office.
Jones (Iowa City, Iowa; Iowa City) co-led the Bulldog offense with a .316 average, compiling nine doubles and a pair of homeruns. He drove in 31 runs and stole five bases on the season, while also posting a .988 fielding percentage by committing just two errors. Jones will enter the 2010 season needing just 35 hits to become the program’s all-time hits leader, as he finished this past season with 157 total hits.
After finishing the season on a tear that resulted in tying Jones for the team lead in batting average, Myers (Fenton, Mo.; Rockwood Summit) pieced together one of the most productive freshman seasons in Bulldog history. He drove in 35 RBIs – a team-best – while recording the team’s best slugging and on-base percentages. Myers had the most multi-RBI games on the squad while spending most of the season in the lineup’s No. 2 spot.
