April 29, 2009 – Truman women’s basketball head coach Michael Smith has released the names of two student-athletes that will join the Bulldog program in the fall of 2009. Guard Jenny Dorman and forward Megan Sharpe become the seventh and eighth members of Smith’s first full recruiting class at Truman.

Dorman, a 5-foot-7 guard from Pella, Iowa, will transfer to Truman after playing one season at Missouri S&T. While at Mo. S&T, she played in all 29 games and averaged nearly 12 minutes and four points per game. She led the Lady Miners in three-point percentage (47.9%) and connected for 23 on the season. Dorman was also only one of six players on the Mo. S&T roster to play in all 29 games.

In high school, Dorman was a first-team all-state selection her senior year and received both first- and second-team all-state votes as a junior. She is Pella High School’s all-time leading scorer with 1,406 career points and shot better than 45% from the three-point line for her career – including an over 50% clip as a senior.

“Jenny brings many great qualities to our program,” Smith said. “One that stood out the most to me is her durability, having played in all 29 games this season as a true freshman on a team that won 16 games. She knows what to expect on a daily basis and brings a true shooter’s mentality to our team.”

Sharpe, a 5-foot-11 forward from Edwardsville, Ill., was an all-state second-team selection at the 3A/4A level as a senior at Edwardsville High School. She averaged 15 points and more than five rebounds per game in 2009, while shooting better than 60% from the field. An Illinois State Scholar in the classroom, Sharpe was picked to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch all-metro first-team and was the Alton Telegraph’s area player of the year this past season.

She will be playing in the upcoming Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-star game and will compete both in basketball and volleyball at Truman, having signed her letter of intent to join the Bulldog volleyball program last fall.

“Megan brings a level of athleticism we’ve been lacking, as her quickness will cause a lot of mismatch problems in the post for our opponents,” Smith said. “She understands the game and has played at a very high level throughout high school and brings a winning mentality that is hard to teach. She will be an asset for both the basketball and volleyball programs here at Truman.”
