April 27, 2009 - Truman tennis coach Pete Kendall has announced the signing of Maggi Schutte for the 2009-2010 women’s tennis squad. Schutte will enter Truman as a freshman after attending Boone High School in Boone, Iowa.

A four-year starter at Boone, Schutte placed fourth or better for three straight years in Iowa individual state doubles and helped her team to a state championship as a junior. Prior to last season – her junior year – her squad compiled third and fourth places finishes in state competition and has won conference and district championships three straight times. The Iowa High School Athletic Association holds its tennis championships in the spring, so Schutte’s final results for 2009 are pending.

Academically, Schutte is a member of the National Honor Society and has received academic all-conference accolades. She has been named to the Boone High School honor roll each quarter.

“Maggi is one of the top players in the state of Iowa and we are very pleased she chose Truman,” Kendall said. “She will definitely play at the top end of our lineup and will not only be a great addition to the tennis team, but also to the University community.”

The Bulldog women’s tennis team finished the 2008-09 regular season with a 16-5 overall record and went 6-2 in MIAA play. Truman has won 15 or more matches each of the last three seasons and will learn whether it received an at-large bid to this season’s NCAA tournament later this week.
