The Bulldogs mustered just five hits in game one in support of sophomore starter Michael Staihr, who gave up four runs and six hits in 4.1 innings of work. The two squads were scorless through the first four innings before WU broke the game open in the fifth with a six-run burst before tacking on an additional insurance run in their half of the sixth. Freshman SS Steven Rose had two of Truman’s hits in the contest, while Eric Radel, Jake Smith and Peter Ingles entered the game in relief on the mound.
In game two, Truman held a 5-2 lead after two innings but found themselves trailing by one entering the sixth. After Jeff Davison picked up one of his three hits in the game leading off the Bulldog sixth, Garwood doubled to center, scoring Davison to tie the game at six apiece. However, following Garwood’s at-bat, the skies opened and the two squads waited out a two-hour, nine-minute rain delay before resuming play.
From there, though, the Ichabods jumped on a pair of Bulldog relievers in their half of the eighth to put a four-spot up on the board before holding on for a 10-8 decision.
