Game 1 Box Score ~ Game 2 Box Score

April 25, 2009 – The Missouri Southern Lions rained on the senior day parade as they swept a twinbill from the Truman softball team on Saturday 4-0 and 2-1.  Five Bulldogs, Stephanie Johnson, Kali Holleran, Rebekah Shea, Lindsey Rock and Dani Mayer, were honored between games.

The Lions used speed to score early in game one.  With two on and two out, Trish Washburn hit a ground ball that was stopped by Alex Weber on a diving play, however, Weber could not get to her feet in time to make the throw and Breanna Volkmann motored all the way from second to score.

In the second Natalie Nelson reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second.  She came in on a basehit by Andrea Childes with two out.

Missouri Southern added two more in the third as the Bulldogs could not get anything going offensively.  Truman had just three hits in the first game and only one until the sixth inning.

Whitney Clute pitched the complete game shutout for the Lions, fanning two Bulldogs.

After spotting Missouri Southern with single runs in the third and fourth innings, the Bulldogs tried to rally in the second game.

Erica LaCombe singled and stole second to lead off the sixth and came in on a sac fly off the bat of Holleran for the ‘Dogs only run of the game.

Rock singled with one out in the seventh but was stranded when Richelle vanGennip struck out and Katie Pitts grounded out to end the game.

Truman’s record is 11-33 overall, 3-17 in the MIAA while Missouri Southern moves to 20-33 overall and 8-12 in the conference.
