April 22, 2009 – The Quincy Lady Hawks edged out the Truman softball team for a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday afternoon.  The Hawks won 5-3 and 1-0 over the Bulldogs.  Truman has some key games coming up this weekend at home starting with Pittsburg State on Friday and senior day against Missouri Southern on Saturday.

The ‘dogs got on the scoreboard first in the third inning on a sac fly by Erica LaCombe that scored Alex Weber. 

Quincy came right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning with two coming off the bat of Erin Gregory’s home run to left field.

The Lady Hawks scored two more runs in the fourth and could have broken the game wide open but the Bulldogs got a force play and a ground out to leave the bases loaded.

LaCombe picked up her second RBI of the game with a single in the seventh that scored Katie Pitts and Dani Mayer came in on a wild pitch with two outs.

The Bulldogs left the tying run at the plate when Rebekah Shea was struck out by Torie Bunzell, who picked up the save in relief of Megan Corey.  Richelle vanGennip was the loosing pitcher for the Bulldogs.

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs left two runners on in the third inning only to watch the Lady Hawks score their only run of the game in the bottom of the inning for a 1-0 victory.

After a pair of sac bunts that put runners at second and third with one out, Cristina Hughes singled to left to score Tiffiany Brakeville.

Bunzell then outdueled Bulldog pitcher Stephanie Johnson for the win Bunzell pitched a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts and scattered just five hits.  The Bulldogs left eight runners on base.

Johnson allowed just the one run in the complete game and gave up six hits for the Bulldogs.

Truman hosts Pittsburg State at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and Missouri Southern at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in Kirksville.  The Bulldogs are still in a tight battle for the final spots in the MIAA Postseason softball tournament and need wins this weekend.
