April 17, 2009 – The Truman offense came alive in Maryville but could only manage a split with the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats.  The Bulldogs won the first game 6-2 before dropping the nightcap 12-11.  Truman will face Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday.

Lindsey Rock supplied three of the eight hits in the first game as the Bulldogs scored five times in the second inning. 

Mary Manley led off the inning with a solo home run and Dani Mayer hit a three-run shot as the Bulldogs hit five roundtrippers on the day.

Kali Holleran hit one out to left to add insurance in the fifth inning.

Richelle vanGennip pitched seven strong innings allowing two unearned runs and striking out five Bearcat hitters.

Northwest struck first in the second game as Tiffany Carter went deep in the first inning.  However, Truman responded with three runs in the second as Lindsey Rock continued on a tear with a two-run homer to left.

Kristen Siegler hit another two-run shot in the third to put the Bulldogs up 5-1.

 The Bearcats responded in the bottom of the inning as then sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs to take a 6-5 lead.

Holleran then doubled in the top of the fourth to plate two more Bulldogs to retake the lead but two costly errors in the bottom of the inning put the Bearcats back on top 8-7.

The Bulldogs battled back with five hits and four runs of their own in the top of the fifth.  Holleran added to her RBI total on the day with two more on a single to left to put Truman up 11-8.

The Bearcats loaded the bases in their next at bat.  With two outs and just one run in, Carter hit a two-run single to center and two more errors allowed Northwest to go up 12-11.

Truman had two on with one out in the seventh but Holleran and Manly each flied out to end the game.

The Bulldogs are 11-26 overall and 3-11 in the MIAA while Northwest improves to 13-32 overall and 4-10 in the conference.  The two teams are battling for the final spots in the MIAA postseason softball tournament.  Five schools are within two games of each other for the final two spots. With just over a week left in the regular season.
