QUINCY, Ill. – Both the Truman men’s and women’s tennis teams wrapped up a season sweep of the Quincy University Hawks on Wednesday afternoon, as the men’s squad garnered a 9-0 win while the women added an 8-1 decision at the QU tennis courts.

Seniors Lindsy Blair and Courtney Walther, along with sophomores Amy Ochs and Kelsey Kuykendall, were 2-0 on the afternoon and won in straight sets to help the Bulldog women improve to 15-3 overall on the season. Freshman Ellen Russell also went 2-0 but had to survive a super-tiebreaker in the third set against Quincy’s Pam Ganer to hold on for the win at No. 4 singles.

On the men’s side, all six Bulldogs won in straight sets in singles following a perfect 3-0 effort in doubles play to pick up the 9-0 sweep. Colin Boswell and Ben Rusk dropped just three games combined at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, while Peter Bracha and Steven Hipkiss followed up their 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles with straight-set routs at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. The Bulldog men moved to 7-4 on the season with the win.

With inclement weather in the forecast this weekend, the Bulldog teams have cancelled their trip to Newman University and East Central (Okla.) University and will hit the court again next Tuesday at Rockhurst (Mo.) University for the regular season finale.

Following Tuesday’s trip to the Kansas City area, the squads will turn around and head right back next Saturday and Sunday to the Plaza Tennis Center for the MIAA tournament. The Bulldog men are locked into the No. 4 seed and will face either Emporia State or Nebraska-Omaha in the first round, while the women’s squad appears headed for a draw to determine the Nos. 2-4 seeds. Truman and Northwest Missouri are tied at 6-2 in conference play, while Nebraska-Omaha would also reach that mark with a home win against Emporia State on Saturday. The official brackets will be announced next week.
