April 11, 2009 – Danna Kelly set a new Truman record and an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Katrina Biermann also broke her own school record in the pole vault in the Jim Duncan Invitational hosted by Drake University this weekend.

In her two previous races this season, Kelly has improved on her school record in the steeplechase but on Friday night the Boone, Iowa senior shaved nearly 10 seconds off that record.  Kelly crossed in 10:49.66 to break the meet record set in 2007 of Mary Fouberg of South Dakota (10:57.54).

That time is the fourth fastest time turned in by a Division II runner this season.  Karla Alburez of California State- Los Angeles is the current pace setter at 10:44.50.

Biermann took first with a vault of 3.69m (12-01.25) to keep raising her standard in the pole vault.  Biermann took first in the event and broke her school record for the second time in as many events.  Biermann also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.24m (36-10.50).

Kortney Holeman also set a NCAA provisional mark in the discus throw.  Holeman finished third in the event with a mark of 43.38m (142-04).
