Game 1 Box Score ~ Game 2 Box Score

April 8, 2009 – The Bulldog softball team notched their first conference win with a doubleheader split against Washburn University on Wednesday afternoon.  Truman won the first game 7-4 in 10 innings but lost the nightcap 6-1.  The team will be in action at home on Friday against the University of Central Missouri at 2:00 p.m.

The first game was a back and forth affair with Washburn taking an early 2-0 lead.  Truman tied the game in the fourth on an Erica LaCombe single to right that scored Kristen Siegler and Rebekah Shea.

Neither team scored before extra innings were needed.  In the top of the eighth, Katie Pitts scored when Kali Holleran reached via error with two out to give Truman their first lead.

However, Bulldog pitcher Stephanie Johnson ran into trouble in the bottom of the inning as the Lady Blues loaded the bases.  Johnson walked Katie Duncan to force in the tying run but got Britny Cushing to strike out to strand the sacks full.

In the 10th, Lindsey Rock and LaCombe came into score on a single by Pitts.  Holleran and Shea followed with two-out hits to give the Bulldogs a 7-3 lead.

Truman allowed Washburn’s runner placed on second to score in the bottom of the inning but Johnson got Tish Williams to line out into a double play to strand two more Lady Blues. Washburn left 13 runners on base for the game and were 2-of-12 with runners in scoring position.

Washburn got a big third inning in the second game in which they tallied five runs on five hits to take a big lead.

The Bulldogs got a run back in the fourth when Mary Manley scored on a groundout by LaCombe.

The Lady Blues got that run back in the fifth on a sac fly from Lindsey Moore that scored Dani White.

Megan Kimerer pitched a complete game for the Lady Blues to pick up the win.

Pitts finished the day for Truman going 5-of-7 with two runs scored and an RBI.
