Game 1 Box Score ~ Game 2 Box Score

April 7, 2009 – The Emporia State Lady Hornets had too much firepower and defeated the Truman softball team in a pair of games in Emporia, Kan. on Tuesday.  The Bulldogs lost 9-3 and 12-2 and will face Washburn on Wednesday in Topeka at 1:00 p.m.

The Lady Hornets scored twice in the first inning on a two-out RBI double by Aubree Brattin.

Truman cut the deficit in half in their next at bat when Stephanie Johnson brought Dani Mayer with one out on a fielding error by Angela Mahan at second.

However Emporia would get that run right back on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the inning.

Mayer homered to lead off the fourth to make the score 4-2 but the Lady Hornets exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.

All the runs scored with two outs and included back-to-back home runs by Abby Smith and Jenna Potter.

Mary Manley doubled to lead off the seventh and came into score on an error by Jennifer Dace at first base.

Mayer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Stephanie Johnson was tagged with the loss after allowing all nine runs in 3 2/2 innings pitched.

Emporia wasted no time in jumping on the Bulldogs in the second game.  The Lady Hornets scored runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead and added two more in the fourth.

Manley hit her first career home run for Truman in the sixth as the two-run shot to left plated Rebekah Shea.

The Lady Hornets scored six times in the bottom of the inning and ended the game on a three-run homer by Potter.

Truman is now 8-21 on the season and 0-6 in the MIAA while Emporia improves to 24-9 and 5-1 in the conference.
