Game 1 Box Score ~ Game 2 Box Score

April 1, 2009 – Missouri Western extended their winning streak to 26 games with a doubleheader sweep over the Truman softball team on Wednesday afternoon in Kirksville.  The Bulldogs will travel to Rockhurst on Thursday before a conference twinbill with Fort Hays State on Friday.

The Griffons used the long ball to get on the scoreboard in the first game as Shannon Pivovar connected on a two-out home run to left in the first inning.

An errant throw in the Missouri Western fifth inning led to two more insurance runs as Allison Jones ran her record to 16-1 with a complete-game four hit shutout.

In the nightcap, Truman spotted the red-hot Griffons seven runs before making a valiant comeback effort.

Kali Holleran singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth and Rebekah Shea followed with another basehit.  Dani Mayer drove in Holleran to put Truman on the scoreboard.

Mary Manley singled to right to score Shea and Lindsey Rock reached on a field error to plate Mayer.

Katie Pitts then delivered a two-out double to bring the Bulldogs to within two.  Alex Weber then made it six hits in the inning and brought Erica LaCombe up with a chance to tie or take the lead.

LaCombe flared a ball that was caught by the shortstop in short center field to end the inning.

Truman went quietly in the seventh to fall 7-5.

The Bulldogs are 8-17 (0-2 MIAA) on the season while Missouri Western improves to 29-4 (4-0 MIAA).
