March 30, 2009 – The weekend weather forced the Bulldog golf teams north to compete at the Northern Sun Spring Fling in Lincoln, Neb. The men’s squad took second after a strong second day performance while the women finished fourth in their first event of the season.
The men sat in fourth place after the first round score of 301 at Wilderness Ridge Country Club but used their experience playing in windy conditions (gusts of 35 mph) to turn in the low round in day two. The Bulldogs repeated the 301 performance and finished just two shots back of St. Cloud State for the tournament championship.
Scott Danielsen carded rounds of 74-73 to finish in a tie for fourth while Chris Kovach was one shot back in a tie for sixth place. Michael Spaulding finished in a tie for 13th (77-75), Nik Bentzinger finished 22nd (76-79) and Andy Herington tied for 33rd (79-81).
The women could not move out of fourth place in the second day of their tournament held at nearby Yankee Hill Country Club. Krystal Limsiaco led the team with a 84 as the Bulldogs shot 346 during the first round.
The same windy conditions hampered the women’s tournament as scores across the board ballooned up.
Jennifer Lawson put together a round of 85 to finish in a tie for 11th,while Limsiaco was two shots back in 16th place. Julie Williams tied for 17th (86-93), Liz Lestmann finished in 31st (93-93) and Erin Semple tied for 35th (88-103). Lindsey Dodge tied for 28th with rounds of 92-92 playing as an individual.
The Bulldog women will host the annual Truman Bulldog Classic this Friday and Saturday at the Kirksville Country Club while the men will be off until April 13th when they play at the Washburn Spring Invite, an MIAA scoring event.
