March 31, 2009 – Track and Field member Coedy Walker was named the MIAA Student-Athlete of the week for men’s field events. It is the first time since 2001 a Bulldog has won the award.
Walker, a freshman from Lee's Summit Mo., took first place in both long jump and triple jump at the Washington (Mo.) University Mini-Meet Friday (March 27).
He won the long jump with a distance of 23 feet, 8.25 inches, and claimed the triple jump with a mark of 46-5.50.
The long jump effort was a provisional qualifying distance for the outdoor national championships and ranks fifth-best in Division II and tops in the MIAA so far this season.
He is the first Truman male field athlete to win the award since Jake Kingery did so on March 27, 2001. Sean Bergstedt last won the track male athlete of the week award on May 1, 2007.
Walker is a graduate of Lee's Summit North High School.
