March 22, 2009 – The Bulldog softball team concluded the Missouri Western Ramada Inn Classic with a pair of losses on Sunday. Truman lost 2-1 to Upper Iowa and 4-0 to Wayne State (Neb.). The team will have two home doubleheaders beginning on Tuesday against Lincoln University.
Despite out hitting the Peacocks 7-4, Upper Iowa scored a run in the third and fifth innings on two-out basehits to defeat the Bulldogs 2-1.
Kali Holleran and Dani Mayer each collected two hits for Truman but the Bulldogs stranded seven on base in the loss.
Truman cut the Peacock lead in half with an RBI single by Holleran in the sixth and had two on with one out in the seventh but an infield fly and a foul out by Holleran ended the game.
Wayne State got a two run home run in the fourth inning and added a two-run two-out double in the sixth to defeat the Bulldogs 4-0 in the final game of the tournament.
Truman mustered only three hits with Rebekah Shea getting two of them.
Stephanie Johnson was tagged for the loss after tossing five innings and striking out a pair.
Shea had the hot bat for the Bulldogs in the tournament as she went 4-for-9 with a pair of RBIs and Erica LaCombe scored three runs.
The Bulldogs will host Lincoln University at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Missouri S&T at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Truman Softball Park.
