BOLIVAR/JOPLIN, Mo. – For the first time since 2005, the Truman women’s tennis team knocked off Southwest Baptist, then turned and dispatched Missouri Southern in a two-day trip to southwest Missouri. The Bulldog men dropped a decision to SBU on Friday.

The Bulldog women (9-0, 2-0 MIAA) exacted revenge on a Bearcat squad that knocked Truman out of the NCAA Tournament each of the past two seasons. Truman won two out of three doubles matches, then were victorious at Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6 singles to close out the SBU match, 6-3. Lindsy Blair won both of her matches at the No. 1 spot, as did Ellen Russell, who played No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.

On the men’s side, Truman (3-1, 0-1 MIAA) was shut out in singles against the nation’s No. 22 team but did get an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles through Peter Bracha and Steven Hipkiss.

Saturday featured the Bulldog women at Missouri Southern, and, despite dropping the No. 1 singles match, Truman swept doubles and the remainder of the singles matches to leave Joplin with an 8-1 victory. All five Bulldogs at two through six singles won in straight sets, led by Courtney Walther’s -0, -0 win at the No. 2 spot.

Both doubles at Nos. 2 and 3 won by an 8-0 margin as well for the Bulldog women, who sit a half-game back in the MIAA standings behind Nebraska-Omaha’s 3-0 conference mark.

The Truman men host Missouri Baptist at home on Wednesday before both squads travel to Emporia State and Washburn next weekend.
