March 21, 2009 – The Truman softball team lost a one-run game to Quincy and then dropped an 8-0 decision to Concordia-St. Paul in the first two games of the Missouri Western Ramada Inn Classic on Saturday. The Bulldogs will face Upper Iowa and Wayne St. (Neb.) on Sunday.
The Hawks finally got their revenge on Truman after the Bulldogs handed Quincy a pair of one-run defeats on Wednesday in Kirksville. Once again, Quincy scored the majority of their runs via the long ball as the jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first when Megan Corey went deep.
Erica LaCombe tripled to start the sixth inning and came in on a sac fly by Rebekah Shea to cut the QU lead to 3-2, however the Hawks got a two-out RBI single from Jordan Hilliard to get the run right back.
Mary Manley led off the seventh with a triple for Truman and Lindsey Rock brought her in one out later. Rock got to third before being stranded their on a Sierra Baechle strike out and a Kali Holleran ground out that ended the game.
Richelle vanGennip was tagged with the loss for the Bulldogs and dropped to 2-4 on the season. LaCombe was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and Shea drove in two runs.
The Golden Bears of Concordia scored a pair of runs in the second inning and broke open the contest with four in the third as they defeated the Bulldogs 8-0 in five innings.
Truman left the bases loaded in the bottom of the second as they got two of their four hits in that inning.
Concordia had two big hits in the third inning, a two-run home run and a two-run double to go up 6-0 and closed out the game with a two-run single in the fifth.
Ashley Rotkvich was the loosing pitcher for the Bulldogs.
Truman drops to 8-13 on the season with two more games in the tournament on Sunday.
