Feb. 12, 2009 – The Truman men’s tennis team kicked off their spring season with a bang as they defeated Division I, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 5-4 in their first dual of the season.  The Bulldogs will participate in the Principia College tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The ‘Dogs were behind 2-1 following the doubles matches with Peter Bracha and Stephen Hipkiss picking up the lone with at number two, 8-3.  The top team of Kyle Schlotz and John Rothfusz lost a nail bitter 9-8 to the Cougars top tandem.

Truman was able to take four of the six singles matches to claim their third dual victory during the 2008-09 school year.  Hipkiss and Eric McCollough both needed three sets to complete their victories.

Hipkiss won his first set at number two singles 7-6 but dropped the next6-2.  He rallied to win the tie break 6-2.

McCollough lost his opening set 7-5 but won the number five singles match with two straight 6-1 decisions in sets two and three.

Schlotz and Rothfusz were also singles match winners for Truman while Bracha and Colin Boswell each forced a tie-break set before falling.
