1650 Finals ~ Finals

 

Feb. 14, 2009 – The Truman women’s swimming team captured their fifth straight New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference championship on Saturday night in Cleveland, Miss.  The Bulldogs have won a conference championship 15 out of the last 16 years.

 

The women collected six more A-cuts on the final night and have 14 swimmers qualified for the national meet next month in Houston, Texas. 

 

Jessie Lemaster and Stephanie Myers picked up their A-cut times by coming in first and second respectively in the 1650 free, while Krista Tippin, Kate Aherne and Anna Grinter also achieved their marks on the last night of the meet.  Tippin placed third in the 200 back, Aherne was second in the 100 free and Grinter was second in the 200 fly.

 

The 400 free relay squad of Aherne, Carina Pautz, Tanya Slyvester and Kendra Brunkow won that event in an A-cut time of 3:29.59.

 

The women finished with 960 points and easily won the title over Delta State who amassed 805 points.  Rival Drury finished last with just 243 points.

 

The men’s national squad sits at six members after their fourth place finish at the NSISC meet.

 

Andrew Berdine earned an A-cut mark in the 200 back with his third place finish while Brian Tillis came in 4th in the 1650 (16:00.12-NCAA B) and Robert Markie finished fifth in the 200 fly (1:54.49-NCAA B).

 

Some Bulldogs may participate in a last chance meet in the next couple of weeks before nationals begin on March 11th at the Division II Winter Sports Festival in Houston, Texas.

Prelims ~ Finals

 

Feb. 13, 2008 – Two men’s swimmers captured A-cuts and the Truman women’s swimming team maintained their lead after day three of the New South Intercollegiate Swim Championships in Cleveland, Miss.

 

Andrew Berdine and Eric Kaestner punched their ticket to the NCAA Division II championships with A-cut times in their respective events.  Berdine took first in the 400 IM with a time of 3:59.25 while Kaestner touched second in the 100 Fly with a season-best mark of 49.14.

 

Robert Markie earned a B-cut time, his first of the season, in the 100 Breast with a time of 58.87.

 

The women again used their depth at the conference meet.  Kate Aherne improved her 400 IM time to 4:29.25 with a first place showing while Amanda Carnes also collected her first A-cut time of the year finishing second to Aherne in the 400 IM.

 

Claire Myers and Julia Jones rounded out four of the eight swimmers in the A-finals of the 400 IM.

 

Kendra Brunkow finished just ahead of Jacqui Dempsey in the 200 Free.  Brunkow touched in an A-cut time of 1:53.19 and placed second in the event.

 

The Bulldogs had four out of the eight finalists again in the 100 Breast with Emily Buss taking second in a B-cut time of 1:06.07.  Krista Tippin placed third in the 100 back.

 

Truman improved on their 800 free relay time with a mark of 7:37.03 behind the performance of Erika Anderson, Dempsey, Brunkow and Aherne and took first in the event.

 

The Saturday finals will feature races in the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly and the 400 Free Relay.

Prelims ~ Results

 

Feb. 12, 2009 – The women’s swim team increased their lead while the men remained in second place at the New South Intercollegiate Swim Championships in Cleveland, Miss.  Truman leads Henderson State 384-247 while Missouri S&T has a 340-247 lead over the men.

 

The women’s 400 medley relay squad of Krista Tippin, Emily Buss, Tanya Sylvester and Carina Pautz earned an A-cut time of 4:39.38 and placed first.

 

The 200 free relay took second while the men’s 200 was third.

 

Individually, Kate Aherne and Erika Anderson led five Truman swimmers in the eight person 200 IM finals.  Aherne and Anderson each touched the wall in A-cut times.

 

On the men’s side, Jason Stokes improved his A-cut time in the 50 free with a second place showing.

 

Andrew Berdine finished fourth in the 200 IM with a B-cut time of 1:53.56.

 

The meet continues on Friday with the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 800 Free Relay events.

Prelims/Finals

Feb. 12, 2009 – Both 200 medley relay teams earned Division II “A” cuts at the opening day of the New South Intercollegiate Swim Championships in Cleveland, Miss.  The Bulldog women have the first-day lead in the team standings while the men sit in a close second.

In the 200 medley relay, Krista Tippin, Jessica Jenkot, Tanya Sylvester and Kate Aherne beat Henderson State by just over a second (1:45.29) to earn an A-cut time in the event.  The men’s quartet of Eric Kaestner, Andrew McCall, Paul Wanamaker and Jason Stokes touched in 1:32.77 to earn their A-cut.

In the other event contested during the first day, Julia Jones won the women’s 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:14.59.  Stephanie Myers (10:35.27) finished third and Kelli Horner (10:36.22) placed fourth.

Zac Litzau (9:37.19) led a trio of men’s finishers in the 1000 with a sixth showing.  Brian Tillis (9:39.61) was seventh and James Barber (9:44.58) was eighth.

Day two events will include the 200 free relay, 50 and 500 free, 200 IM and 400 medley relay events.
