Feb. 1, 2009 – The Emporia State Hornets shot nearly 60% from the field, including 10 three-pointers to pull away in the second half and hand the Truman Bulldogs an 87-63 road defeat on Sunday.  Brandon Griffin led Truman with 16 points.

Lamar Wilbern scored six points of an 8-0 run late in the first half to give Emporia (14-6/8-5 MIAA)  their first double-digit lead of the game. 

Early in the second period, ESU would score 17 straight points to take a 71-43 lead with 11:55 left.

Truman (6-14/1-12 MIAA) scored the next 11 points with Vesko Filchev scoring five of his 15 points during that run but in the end it was the Hornets that scored 31 points off of 20 Truman turnovers and knocked down five three-pointers in each half.

Tim Niles had three triples and was 6-of-7 at the line to lead all scorers with 23 followed by Rob Moores 5-of-6 long range shooting and 19 points.

Griffin was 8-of-11 from the field for Truman while Filchev was 7-of-10 and pulled down seven rebounds.

Truman will return to Kansas on Wednesday night and face the Washburn Ichabods at 7:30 p.m.  The Ichabods were 79-78 winners over Missouri Western on Saturday night in Topeka.
