Jan. 11, 2009 – The Truman men’s and women’s swimming teams began their push toward nationals this past weekend with a two-day dual meet at Lewis University (Ill.). The Bulldog women won both meets handily while the men rallied to win the Saturday dual.
The women won all the individual events contested throughout the meet and broke seven pool records in
Kate Aherne captured an A-cut in the 400 IM and garnered a pool record in the 100 Free relay while swimming the lead-off leg.
On Saturday, Aherne earned pool records in the 200 free and 50 free.
Erika Anderson (200 IM), Anna Grinter (200 Fly) and the 400 Medley relay squad also achieved pool records. Julia Jones earned a B-cut in the 400 IM.
The men’s meet on Friday night was a tight affair with Lewis gaining the dual meet victory by edging out Truman in the 400 Free relay by a time of 3:15.21 to 3:15.45.
The Bulldog men won all the individual events with Brian Tillis taking top honors in the 1650 free and Truman going 1-2-3 in the 50 Free with Jason Stokes, Andrew McCall and Peter McCall racing each other to the wall.
On Saturday, the men bounced back with wins in the 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay and took the top three spots in both the 50 Free and 200 Fly events.
Corey Moon picked up a big victory and nine points for the team in the 200 breast event touching in 2:17.69.
