Nov. 24, 2008 – The Truman men’s and women’s swimming teams achieved several national standards at the Hoosierland Open Invite hosted by Indiana University over the weekend. Kate Aherne made three individual “A” cuts, while the men’s 200 free relay achieved an “A” cut.
Aherne scored her cuts in the 50 free, 200 free and 100 free, while four other women’s swimmers made automatics. Erika Anderson in the 400 IM, Anna Grinter in the 200 Fly, Julia Jones in the 1650 Free and Emily Buss in the 100 Breast swam “A” Cut times and qualified for nationals next March.
In addition, three relay teams, the 800 free relay, 400 medley relay and the 200 free relay swam “A” Cut times. The 800 Free Relay team was Tanya Sylvester, Kendra Brunkow, Anderson and Aherne. Member of the 400 medley relay team were Aherne, Buss, Sylvester and Brunkow and 200 free relay members were Brunkow, Sylvester, Kelli Horner and Jessica Jenkot.
The men’s 200 free relay team finished third and consisted of Jason Stokes, Andrew McCall, Peter McCall and Eric Kaestner. They swam a time of 1:23.29.
Kaestner also achieved “B” cut times in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly events. Brian Tillis also scored two “B” cut times in the 500 free and 1650 free swims. Andrew Berdine made “B” times in the 200 and 400 IM events.
The Bulldogs are off until Jan. 9th when they travel to Lewis University (Ill.) for a two-day dual meet.
