Aug. 13, 2008 – Greg Naumann has been named assistant swimming coach at Truman State University.  Naumann was previously the head swimming coach at Division III Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

 

Naumann is a native the Davenport, Iowa and obtained both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Western Illinois University in Macomb.

 

As a member of the Leathernecks swim team for four years, Naumann was a part of four conference team championship squads and was a second team all-conference performer for the Mid-Continent Conference in 2002.  Naumann is listed in the top 10 times at WIU in the 100 backstroke and was named the team’s “Newcomer of the Year” following the 1998-99 season.

 

After his graduation from WIU, he joined the staff as an assistant coach and was also head coach for the McDonough County YMCA.  Naumann also coached the Macomb High School teams.

 

Prior to taking over at Augustana, Naumann served as head coach of the Davenport Metro swim team, aquatics director of the Davenport YMCA and the aquatics facility manager for the Davenport Parks and Recreation Department.

 

“I am extremely excited to have Greg join the staff,” said Head Coach Mark Gole.  “He shares a common philosophy about the sport of swimming and his passion about the sport is highly evident. I believe that he is going to do an excellent job working with our student-athletes.”

 

Naumann replaces former Bulldog Eric Paden, who resigned to pursue other interests.

 

The Bulldog women’s swim team is the defending NCAA Division II National Champion.  The team won their seventh national championship in eight years this past March in Columbia, Mo.  The men’s squad finished 20th in the nation.
