Day 3 Results

 

Mar. 14, 2008 – Truman women’s 800 free relay team captured the national title and is now tied with Drury University with 351 points as the two rivals will battle on Saturday in the final day of the Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.

 

The relay team consisted of Kate Aherne, Emily Pufall, Kendra Brunkow and Molly Polette came in with a time of 7:26.43 to beat out a squad from the University of San Diego for the championships.

 

It is the second title for Aherne in the meet and Polette continues to shine with finishes of no worse than third in her four events so far.  Earlier in the evening, Polette took second in the 500 free in a time of 4:52.13.  She is scheduled to race in two more events on Saturday, the 1650 free and the 100 free.

 

Anna Grinter (Manhattan, Kan.) made a splash in her first event of the championships with a fourth place finish in the 200 fly.  She will compete in the 20 back on Saturday.

 

Other scorers for the Bulldog women in day three were Aherne in the 100 back (9th), Erika Anderson in the 100 breast (7th), Emily Buss in the 100 breast (14th), Emily Greenwood in the 100 back (5th), Pufall in the 500 free (14th), Tanya Sylvester in the 200 fly (15th), Katie Welsh in the 200 fly (11th) and Whitney Wodstrchill in the 500 free (13th).

 

The Bulldogs and Panthers are tied with 351 points, 99 points ahead of third place San Diego. 

 

The men’s squad scored some points in the 800 free relay when Alex Totura, Adam Pruess, Andrew McCall and Jason Stokes came in 16th in the event. 

 

The Truman men are in 20th place with 41 points.
