Day 2 Results

 

Mar. 13, 2008 – Truman’s lead at the Division II National Swimming & Division Championships is just one point after the second day of competition on the women’s side. The Bulldogs lead rival Drury 226 to 225 at the Mizzou Aquatics Center in Columbia, Mo.

 

Molly Polette turned in the highest finish for Truman on the day with a third place showing in the  200 freestyle.  Polette finished in a time of 1:49.60.

 

Katie Welsh took fifth, Whitney Wodstrchill sixth and Claire Myers eighth in the 400 IM.

 

The Bulldogs 200 free relay team finished in fourth place.  The team was comprised of Emily Greenwood, Erika Anderson, Kendra Brunkow and Kate Aherne.

 

Drury was able to close the gap with a first place finish in the final event of the night, the 400 medley relay event, while the Bulldogs had to settle for first place in the B-Finals after narrowly missing the A-Finals during preliminaries.

 

The Truman men’s squad fell to 18th place after picking up only 19 points on the second day.  Those points were scored by Alex Totura with a 16th place finish in the 100 fly and the 400 medley relay team’s 10th place showing.  That team was made up of Totura, Jason Stokes, Adam Pruess and Andrew McCall.

 

Day 1 Results

 

Mar. 11, 2008 – Sophomore Kate Aherne won a national title in the first day of competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving championships being held in Columbia, Mo.  Aherne won the 200 IM and helped led the Bulldog women to a first place finish for the day.

 

Aherne (Cary, Ill.) was in two finals during the first day and captured her first national championship in the 200 IM in a time of 2:03.67.  She also placed fifth in the 50 free with a time of 23.48.

 

Senior Molly Polette (Wildwood, Mo.) took a silver medal in the 1000 free event with a time of 10:01.60, which was nearly 25 seconds faster than her qualifying time.

 

The Bulldog 200 medley relay team of junior Erika Anderson (Dublin, Ohio), senior Emily Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo.), senior Laura Harp (Westerville, Ohio) and freshman Carina Pautz (Manchester, Mo.) finished fourth with a time of :1:45.14.

 

Other women’s swimmers competing in B-Finals on Wednesday night included: Anderson (200 IM/13th), senior Emily Pufall (Omaha, Neb.) (50 Free/12th), senior Katie Welsh (Wildwood, Mo.) (200 IM/9th) and senior Whitney Wodstrchill (Atkins, Iowa) (1000 Free/11th).

 

Junior Jason Stokes (Blue Springs, Mo.) placed 11th in the men’s 50 free in a time of 20.64 to score points for the team.

 

The men’s 200 medley relay team of sophomore Peter McCall (St. Louis, Mo.), senior Adam Pruess (Dassel, Minn.), Stokes and senior Alex Totura (Naperville, Ill.) advanced to the B-Finals and came in 10th overall with a time of 1:32.23.

 

The Truman women lead with 103 points after the first of four days of competition while the men’s team is in 15th place amassing 20 points.
