Oct. 20, 2007 – The Missouri Southern Lions continued their domination in the MIAA men’s cross country field with their seventh championship since 2000.  Dustin Dixon of the Lions, crossed the line first for the individual championship in a time of 26:07.34.

 

Dixon’s teammate, Dustin Miller was second on the eight kilometer course in a time of 26:15.38.  Miller edged out Southwest Baptist’s Michael Pierce by just under two seconds.  Dan Yoder of Fort Hays State took fourth with a time of 26:29.65, while Mujahid Hassaballa, of Pittsburg State finished fifth in 26:31.89.

 

Rounding out the top 10 to earn all-MIAA honors were Shawn Etzenhouser of SBU (6th/26:33.43), Skyler Delmott of Emporia State (7th/26:35.73), Tim Testa of Pittsburg State (8th/26:40.45), Jeremy Glassmaker of Southwest Baptist (9th/26:41.92) and Brennon Benkert of Missouri Southern (10th/26:42.82).

 

Positions five through 12 were all sophomore runners.

 

The freshman of the year went to Sloan Kern of Emporia State, who placed 19th.

 

The Lions had 40 points, followed by Southwest Baptist’s 58 and Pittsburg State had 68 in the team race.

 

The Bulldogs were in a tie for sixth with Fort Hays State with 174 points.  Zach Chapman was the highest placing Truman runner in 27th position and a time of 27:45.84.  The other four Truman scoring runners were Bob Gorman (32nd/28:00.15), Bryant England (33rd/28:06.05), Josh Mantooth (44th/28:55.35) and John Venner (46th/29:03.73).

 

The South Central regional will be next on the cross country schedule for all conference teams.  Missouri Southern will host the event on Nov. 3rd followed by the NCAA Championships on Nov. 17th also in Joplin.
